... in Paris. It’s my first time here.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

I have been here for a few days so far.

I was surprised that I spotted this old YJ... while not seeing a single Citroen 2cv yet. Note the front and rear lights. Also spotted a Jeep Renegade.

Haven’t seen any GM products either yet... not even Opels.

Lots of PSA and Renault products. A decent number of Ford, BMW, VAG and Mercedes products. Also I’m seeing what looks like an electric version of the the Smart Fortwo but branded as a “Pininfarina”... with styling somewhat different from the Smart.

Also, I’ve come across a Rover 75 wagon, but I haven’t seen any Fiat branded cars.

Also the only time Harley Davidson bikes are used is sometimes at night.

I haven’t actually seen any, but I know there is at least one around because I heard it. I’ve seen more Urals (one) than Harleys. Also seeing a decent number of Trikes... the kind with two wheels in the front.

Almost all bikes are Euro or Japanese bikes.... used to actually go places. This is unlike back home where half of the bikes seem to be straight piped Harleys used just to ride up and down the same stretch of road for showing off.

I’m really enjoying Paris.

You’d thing the wranglers small size out make it a hit of in Europe. It does get terrible gas mileage tho. Unless put a little diesel in it

These?

Autolib cars, you can hire them by the hour or part thereof.

There are companies who hire out 2CVs, but you’re unlikely to see a privately owned one in Paris. Rural France, yes and on a daily basis.

Nobody (almost) buys them, they’re just too weird and impractical. They have 2.8 diesels - would you class them as little?

The old YJS were. TJs weren’t big either. Smaller than a Denfender that’s for sure.

Why, what’s wrong with the lights?

Yes... the Autolib cars. A car sharing service I presume.

Some look like they’re pretty beat up as if they’re driven by crappy/inexperienced drivers who use car sharing services.

Lol

I used them twice, out of curiosity and wrote a post about it here. Car equivalent of the Velib bikes you ’ll see everywhere. Sign up to the service using a roadside kiosk then take cars from their charging points using a card which you get.

Nothing is wrong with them per se.

It’s just YJ Wranglers with Amber turn signals and those specific extra lifts are not common among the total population of wranglers built as far as I know.

Oh, I see. The car is in the EU so it has to have compliant lighting. Orange rear indicators, at least one rear fog light and separate white parking/side lights and orange indicators at the front. North America uses one orange light at the front to act as both parking lights and indicators, which is illegal in most of the world. That car therefore has added on white/orange lights as a cheap way to be legal.

I spent a week in Pairee in 1989 and really enjoyed myself. Most memorable for me was Sacre Coeur, the basilica up on the hill on the outskirts of town. You can — or could at the time — climb to the top and have a great view of the city.

What takes you there?

Vacation.

And it was always a place I wanted to visit.

And I visited Sacre Coeur. My favourite site has been Musee D’Orsay.

And Cafe-hopping and food sampling is great as well

When you climb to the top of Sacre Coeur, you pass through the clearstory , that sort of ledge halfway up the inside wall of the basilica. I’ve visited lots of big old churches over the years, but never anywhere else been in the clearstory.

The week I was in Pairee, the Metro was on strike so I did many miles of walking. In fact, that’s how I spent the most of my time there, walking up and down and back and forth across the city. Great fun, it was. I thought the Eiffel Tower was beyond cool as well. I didn’t do much museuming, but I did make a point of laying my eyes on the Mona Lisa. Because.
